Review by hotel critic
Nestled within the historic fortress-city of Marvão, the El-Rei Dom Manuel Hotel provides not just a picturesque getaway but an excellent culinary experience. Upon my arrival, I was welcomed warmly by the staff, whose attentiveness was evident throughout my stay. The hotel houses Restaurante Dom Manuel, which offers a thoughtfully curated menu that reflects the flavors of the Alentejo region. I particularly enjoyed dining alfresco on the terrace, surrounded by the charm of the old town. Dinner was an exploration of regional dishes paired with delightful local wines, showcasing the creators' commitment to culinary innovation. An unexpected highlight was the gluten-free bread brought to my friend without request, demonstrating their focus on hospitality. The breakfast was well-rounded, featuring an impressive variety, including delectable crepes that stood out during my travels. The comfort of my room, with a beautiful view of the valley and castle, further enhanced the experience, making every meal a part of this memorable journey. The cleanliness and ambiance of the hotel harmonized remarkably with the surrounding landscape. As a wildlife conservationist, I value such authentic encounters that celebrate cultural heritage while providing exceptional service.
